Lorem ipsum is placeholder text derived from a Latin passage by the Roman orator Cicero, written in 45 BC. It has been used by typesetters and designers since the 1500s, and it became the default filler text for print layouts and, later, for websites and apps. Because the words are Latin, readers naturally ignore the text and instead focus on the layout, typography and spacing. That is precisely why designers use it: it stops people from reading the content and forces them to evaluate the visual design.
The most common opening is "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit." The full passage is around 70 words, but the generator on this page can extend it to any length by shuffling phrases from the Latin pool. This means the output is not the original Cicero text — it is a randomised placeholder built from the same vocabulary.
